Substation Manager - Electrical Design

ACEREZ, a partnership of ACCIONA, COBRA and Endeavour Energy, has been appointed network operator by EnergyCo to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) transmission network. The ACCIONA COBRA Joint Venture (ACJV), the design and construct (D&C) consortium, will design and build the Central-West Orana REZ transmission project.

About the role

Our Central-West Orana project is currently seeking a dedicated Senior Electrical Engineer for a Design Manager role to share their expertise within our growing Energy Hubs (Substation) team. The role involves designing substation primary engineering for substations up to 500kV, ensuring compliance with standards and customer requirements. It includes optimizing designs considering constraints, performing detailed substation calculations, and ensuring clash-free layouts through coordination. Responsibilities also cover defining design subsystems for accurate costing, specifying high-voltage equipment, and interfacing with multiple disciplines while reviewing technical documents and system studies.

• The main function of the role is to design the substations for the Central-West Orana ACJV project

• Identify all relevant standards and local Customer requirements, ensuring compliance with relevant National / International Standards and contract specifications

• Understand how the various considerations and constraints effect the design and develop different solutions as part of the design optimisation process

• Coordination of interference checker and its resolution - ensure clash free design based on the definition of clash checks defined by each discipline for internal review steps

• Prepare substation design calculations e.g. earthing design, busbar sizing, SC force calculations, lightning protection, Battery Sizing, cable sizing, cable schedules, circuit breaker selection, bus, fittings, insulator, transformer sizing and arrector selection

• Define the primary design subsystems and bills of material, to a level where the design can be accurately costed

• Ensure the designs, are safe and adhere to the required electrical clearances while providing the necessary provision for maintenance during the life of the installation

• Directly responsible substation outdoor physical design for the general substation arrangement and layout, plan and elevation drawings, transformer/reactor’s yards design and layouts for high voltage bus, cable, high voltage equipment, conduit, cable, and wiring, grounding, and control buildings to satisfy the electrical transmission requirements

• Writing high voltage equipment specifications and issuance of material purchase request forms, and vendor technical evaluation for substation equipment including high voltage circuit breakers, switchgear, disconnects, Earth switches, HV & MV Power transformers, MV & LV cables, DC System, Harmonic Filters, Synchronous condensers, Shunt Reactors, Auxiliary transformers, RMU, Earthing materials etc

• Interface with other discipline e.g. Civils, Protection, cables and OHL 

• Review of Power system modelling, short circuit study, Load flow reports etc

• Scrutiny of various manufacturer technical documents/drawings/calculations and accord approvals from clients during detailed engineering phase

About you

• Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering or a related field

• Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in outdoor and indoor substations, preferably 330kV or higher (ideally 500kV)

• Should have good knowledge of latest local standards & IEC/IEEE/ANSI standards

• Good knowledge and understanding of layout and primary equipment for substation projects up to 500kV

• Proficient with various software tools, such as AutoCAD, ETAP, etc

• Proficiency across various aspects of substation projects including design, engineering, construction, and testing & commissioning

In this role, you will ensure accurate reporting of project costs and monitor budgets against deliverables relating to staffing. You will prepare financial reports to support project budgeting, forecasting, and reporting activities.

• Review and analyze project costs, forecasts, and Risks and Opportunities (R&O)

About the Role

The Training Coordinator supports the facilitation and delivery of internal and external training for the Project. Working closely with the Training Advisor, the Training Coordinator will support coordination of training initiatives and delivery of programs to Project personnel. The role supports accurate record keeping and data entry to support compliance with Project reporting requirements.

About the Role

The Training Advisor supports the facilitation and delivery of internal and external training for the Project. Working closely with funding bodies and external training providers to ensure the delivery of appropriate and timely training whilst providing project wide support. The role supports accurate and timely data collection and reporting to support compliance with Project deed requirements.

The Industry and Employment Training Advisor supports the facilitation and delivery of programs and training to increase local employment, Aboriginal participation and supply chain and workforce diversity. Working closely with Aboriginal community groups, local training and support service providers, funding bodies and key stakeholders to drive the delivery of outcomes within the Central-West Orana region. The role supports accurate and timely data collection to drive continuous improvement, compliance reporting and case study development.

• Support implementation of the Industry and Aboriginal Participation Plan (IAPP) and Training and Skills Management plan (TSMP) and delivery of associated outcomes 

• Proactively engage with Procurement Teams and Subcontractors to drive supply chain engagement and diversity

Our Central-West Orana project is currently seeking a dedicated Geotechnical Engineer to share their expertise within our growing construction team. The Geotechnical Engineer will support the Engineering Department in providing scheduling, quality assurance and project management support on all Geotechnical related matters the transmission line team.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Geotechnical Manager in managing the delivery of works of all Geotechnical activities

• Support and supervise the Construction Department and Subcontractors in ensuring work carried out, is compliant with regulatory and Deed requirements

• Assist in identifying any potential design issues and provide possible contingency solutions

• Assist in the review of design modifications and provide technical advice

• Assist the Geotechnical and Design Manager in providing required data for periodic internal and client reports

• Support the Project's requirements in delivering a project against safety, quality, regulatory, legislative, environmental, safety and cost requirements

• Track and document the approval process to ensure timely submissions and responses

• Support the delivery of foundations, retaining structures, and other geotechnical elements for transmission towers and related infrastructure
